Illinois to accept applications for LIHEAP for heating assistance for Seniors & Disabled starting in September

The state of Illinois says seniors and people with disabilities can begin applying for heating assistance.

Under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, utility bills are paid by the state for certain low-income households containing people with health risks.

To apply for LIHEAP, you must have:

  • proof of monthly income
  • social security numbers for all members of the household
  • provide a copy of current utility bills
  • proof that the household received TANF or SNAP benefits.
