Sandy Wood appointed to CSC Board of Trustees

GALESBURG — Sandy Wood of Galesburg was appointed to the Sandburg College Board of Trustees to fill a board vacancy in the unexpired two-year term until the consolidated election in April 2013.

Wood was appointed by a unanimous vote of the board May 24.

John Huston of Carthage resigned just before the April board meeting. Huston was elected to the board in 1981 and will be honored at the annual Illinois Community College Trustees Association meeting Friday for his 30 years of services on the board.

Wood has 35 years of experience in the field of human service with specialization in developing systems of care for persons with disabilities. She is senior vice president of Bridgeway Inc., a community based human service organization providing leadership for the administrative, clinical and programmatic activities of the consumer programs and services. She has held various management positions over the past 24 years with a primary focus on overseeing services for persons with mental illness and developmental disabilities at Bridgeway.

Wood has written several HUD housing grants resulting in the development of an extensive continuum of supportive housing facilities as well as taking the lead in the development of several successful funding proposals for vocational rehabilitation, transitional services and other expanded service options to enhance recovery and the quality of life for persons with disabilities both in Illinois and Iowa.

She has expertise in a number of evidenced based models of care including supported employment for persons with mental illness, assertive community treatment and wellness recovery action planning. She has extensive experience in preparing staff for Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities accreditation and other state licensure and certification processes.

Wood graduated from St. Olaf College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing. She is a registered nurse and a qualified mental health professional.
