Volunteers Needed for Walk MS Locations Across Illinois on Sunday, May 4

Chicago, Ill., March 14, 2014 — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Illinois Chapter, is calling all volunteers to lend a helping hand at Walk MS on Sunday, May 4, 2014. This year’s Walk MS locations include Bloomington, the Chicago Lakefront, McHenry County (Lake in the Hills), North Shore (Glenview), Northwest Suburbs (Palatine), the Southwest Suburbs (Lockport), the South Suburbs (Orland Park), Rockford, Springfield, St. Charles and the West Suburbs (Naperville).

Walk MS began in 1988, and since then, over $770 million has been raised to fight MS and fund research for a cure. With the money raised through Walk MS and other events, the Greater Illinois Chapter is able to fund critical MS research, programs and services.

Volunteers play a major role in the success of National Multiple Sclerosis Society events. Possible volunteer positions for Walk MS 2014 include activity tent supervision, finish line celebration, food tent, greeter, logistics crew, medical tent, missions tent, photography, pin-on distributor, professional (e.g., massages, face painting and truck driving), registration, rest stop, route/site support, set-up and tear down, t-shirt distribution and volunteer check-in. Volunteers can register online to work either a morning or afternoon shift on the day of the event.

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease that interrupts the flow of information in the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve. The Greater Illinois Chapter mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of more than 20,000 individuals in Illinois and 2.3 million worldwide affected by MS. Envisioning a world free of MS, the Chapter moves toward that end by driving change through advocacy, facilitating education, collaborating with others and by providing helpful programs and services.
