ODEP to Host Online Dialogue on Autonomous (driverless) Vehicles — October 10 through October 20, 2017

As autonomous vehicle (AV) technology continues its rapid progression to mainstream use, it is important to recognize the potential such technology has for reducing transportation and employment barriers for Americans with disabilities.

From October 10 through October 20, U.S. Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) will be hosting an online dialogue with Securing America's Future Energy (SAFE) to gather ideas on how AVs can best serve to increase workplace participation for the disability community. Participants are invited to vote on ideas, expand upon them, and brainstorm new ones. ODEP and SAFE will use the results of this dialogue to develop resources and materials to enhance understanding of AV technology and how it can be of use to people with disabilities as they seek stable and long-term employment.

Developing autonomous vehicles and the transportation system of the future to be universally accessible has technological and economic challenges. What is required to ensure that AVs are accessible to everyone?
