Housing Action Illinois 2015 Advocacy Agenda Webinar
Please join us on Monday, March 9 at between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. for a webinar where we'll provide an overview of the key advocacy initiatives we're currently working on, including advocating against the massive state budget cuts to human service programs proposed by Governor Bruce Rauner that will negatively impact efforts to end homelessness and create affordable housing.
Overall, the proposed funding cut for four key programs (Supportive Housing Services, Homeless Prevention, Homeless Youth and Emergency and Transitional Housing) is 36% and we estimate that 12,582 households will not be served. This will be devastating for the impacted families and is a bad long-term investment for the State of Illinois. We have until the end of May to appeal to our state legislators and Governor Rauner to create a state budget with adequate revenue needed to put Illinois on a path to sustainable prosperity for everyone.
Other issues that we'll briefly cover are:
- State legislation to create reverse mortgage protections for senior citizens.
- Planning for Illinois' first allocation of funds for the National Housing Trust Fund in 2016.
- Federal budget advocacy on programs, such as Housing Choice Vouchers and McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Grants.
We'll also provide information about how you can support Housing Action Illinois' efforts in your local community through outreach to your elected officials and other strategies.
