Illinois Summer Cooling Help is Coming! Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP Starts July 7

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP, will be offering help with summer utility bills. The benefit is a $150.00 payment to electric providers.

Who is eligible?
Low-income households in which at least one person has a qualifying condition:
  • A medical condition that can be improved by air conditioning;
  • A person receiving Social Security Disability benefits, or who has a pending determination case at the Social Security Administration;
  • Senior citizen (over 60 years old);
  • A child aged 5 or younger.
The yearly income limits are $17,235 for 1 person, $23,265 for 2 people, and $29,295 for 3 people. More information about the income limits can be found here: http://liheap.ncat.org/profiles/povertytables/FY2014/popstate.htm
 
When?
The program starts on July 7, 2014, and will end on July 23, 2014 - (or when Summer Funds are exhausted - funds in past years have been exhausted in around 5 Days after the start of application process) . Some local LIHEAP Administering Agencies will accept calls to make appointments before July 7, so call soon to make your appointment!
