“The Beacon” show is a one hour radio program that fills the void for information concerning people with disabilities, seniors and veterans.
Airing Sunday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WCPT (820-AM & FM), show topics cover lifestyle, health, community issues, and more.
With an estimated cume of 100,000, “The Beacon” can be heard from Milwaukee to the North (92.7FM), South Bend to the East (99.9 FM), Kankakee to the South (99.9 FM) and DeKalb to the West (92.5FM).
The program has featured experts in various areas of medical research concerning eye and related conditions. In addition, special guests have included the Director of Veteran Affairs for the state of Illinois; Secretary of State Jesse White addressing the issues of the misuse of the disability placard and organ donation; as well as various City of Chicago commissioners who have discussed how their respective offices serve the needs of all people.
A regular segment on the show is "Tom's Corner" featuring Tom Perski, the Lighthouse's Director of Rehabilitation Services. An expert in low vision devices and a person with low vision himself, Tom discusses his favorite gadgets as well as new developments in adaptive technology.
