WASHINGTON, DC (June 27, 2013) – The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), the nation’s largest disability rights organization, commends the Senate for finally allowing President Obama’s nominee for Labor Secretary, Tom Perez, to move for a confirmation vote. The Senate narrowly voted 60-40 Wednesday with six Republicans joining Democrats to end debate: Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker of Tennessee, Susan Collins of Maine, Mark Kirk of Illinois, John McCain of Arizona and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. A confirmation vote is expected tomorrow.

AAPD mobilized 64 disability organizations to endorse Perez’s nomination who has a strong record on disability and uniquely qualified to address the needs of all Americans, especially people with disabilities. To find out more information, please go to www.PWDforPerez.org.

I am glad that the Senate is living up to the strong bipartisan tradition of supporting Americans with disabilities and allowing Tom Perez’s necessary nomination to go forward,” said Mark Periello, AAPD’s President and CEO. “As a champion on disability and the rights of all workers, AAPD looks forward to his speedy confirmation.”
