UPDATE: originally on March 26, 2015 - scheduled for April 29, with the same agenda and speakers.
For college students and recent graduates, internships offer a way to gain skills and learn about their employment options through first-hand experience. And, the benefits of internships don’t stop there. They also offer employers an easy and effective way to evaluate potential employees and cultivate a pipeline of talent for the future. Furthermore, by targeting specific populations—such as people with disabilities—internships can assist in achieving workforce diversity goals, including those established under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act.
This webinar will address the benefits of hiring interns with disabilities and how employers can take advantage of the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)—a free referral service—to connect with them. Presenters will include a former intern recruited from the WRP and a representative from his employer, Prudential, as well as representatives from DirectEmployers and the Employer TA Center, which partner to provide access to the WRP for private sector companies. The webinar will be facilitated by Tiffany Jolliff from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, which co-sponsors the WRP.
SPEAKERS:
- Tiffany Jolliff, Program Specialist, U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy
- Darren Bates, National Project Director, National Employer Policy, Research and Technical Assistance Center for Employers on the Employment of People with Disabilities (Employer TA Center)
- Shannon Offord, Manager of Strategic Partnership, DirectEmployers
- Allen Gomez, Director, Diversity & Inclusion, Prudential
