U.S. Senate hearing "Law Enforcement Responses to Disabled Americans: Promising Approaches for Protecting Public Safety." On April 29, 2014

On April 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM, the federal Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights is hosting a hearing entitled "Law Enforcement Responses to Disabled Americans:  Promising Approaches for Protecting Public Safety."  

There are two ways to participate:
  • 1) If you can be in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, April 29, you can attend the hearing. RSVP to attend by visiting http://www.thearc.org/NCCJD/calendar . Click on the event on April 29; the RSVP link is in that information. You do not have to RSVP in order to attend, but doing so means that the organizers can have enough space for everyone, and the RSVP form allows you to request accommodations.
  • 2) Submit written testimony for the hearing record. Written testimony helps people share their experiences and perspectives with Committee members. Your testimony should be in a Word or PDF document, and 10 pages or less. Do not include anything that has been previously published, like newspaper or internet articles or reports. You can email your testimony to Durbin_Testimony@Judiciary-dem.Senate.gov no later than Monday, April 28, 2014, at 5:00 PM.

The hearing is open to the public.

Individuals with disabilities who require specific aids or services should contact the committee clerk at 202-224-7703 at least three business days before the hearing date.

Written testimony goes to Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois. Senator Durbin is Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights. The Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all constitutional issues, and all legislation and policy related to civil rights, civil liberties and human rights. The Ranking Member of the Subcommittee is Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).
