FCC Seeks Comment on the Accessibility of Communications Technologies - Comment Deadline: July 25, 2012

On July 12, 2012, the FCC’s Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB) released a Public Notice asking for information about the following:

# the level of compliance with requirements that telecommunications and advanced communications services and equipment be accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities;

# the effect of requirements for related recordkeeping and enforcement on the development and deployment of new communications technologies; and

# the extent to which accessibility barriers still exist with respect to new communications technologies.
This information will help inform the FCC’s first report to Congress about these issues, which is required by the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA) and is due October 8, 2012. The FCC will publish and seek public comment on its tentative findings on these matters before it submits its report to Congress.
