The American Bar Association’s (ABA) President’s Office and the ABA Commission on Disability Rights—joined by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA)—invite you to the Third National Conference for the Employment of Lawyers with Disabilities. It will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.

The goals of the Conference are to eliminate bias against people with disabilities and to advance the full and equal participation of lawyers with disabilities in the legal profession. Experts in the field will advocate for making disability an essential component of diversity plans. Through seven panel discussions, for which CLE credit has been applied for, attendees will: learn about the laws and regulations that protect persons with disabilities in the workplace; acquire from law firm partners, corporate counsels, and government agency lawyers a list of best practices for hiring, retaining, and promoting lawyers with disabilities; and hear firsthand from lawyers with disabilities about the barriers they encountered in entering the profession and the strategies they employed to have a meaningful and successful career. In addition, legal employers can join approximately 125 employers who have affirmed their commitment to promote disability diversity and inclusion by signing the Commission’s Pledge for Change.

Of particular importance, a reception will be held at which attendees will be able to talk to the panel speakers, meet law students and lawyers with disabilities, and network with legal employers. In addition, the ABA will announce its Champions for Disability Inclusion in the Legal Profession Award, which recognizes law firms and corporate legal departments that have made noteworthy
contributions to disability inclusion.
