HAMMOND, Ind. (STMW) – The federal government wants to collect almost $700,000 it says was illegally gained by a Gary, Ind. business, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.
The complaint is asking that $690,909 from a First Midwest account based in Lake County, Ind. be turned over to the federal government.
According to the complaint, the money is connected to Ebb Greenwood and Human Services Transport Providers, who were charged in federal court in January with bilking Indiana Medicaid for almost $2 million.
Greenwood, who the indictment says helped to develop the ambulance business and set up the Medicaid billing, would send bills to Medicaid for reimbursement for ambulance rides supposedly given to clients. Those rides never happened, though, the indictment claims.
The scheme lasted from 2006 until 2010 and took in $1.9 million, according to the indictment.
Greenwood and Human Services have both pleaded not guilty in the case.
The new complaint, which was filed in a separate case from Greenwood’s criminal one, says the money in the bank account was derived from this scheme. U.S. Marshals seized the money in January.
Greenwood’s attorney Benjamen Murphy said he had not seen the newest complaint and had no comment on it.
A trial on the criminal charges is scheduled for July 11.
