ADA Settlement Agreement between the United States of America and Illinois State Police : Dec 2011

U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)

The Justice Department alleged that the Illinois State Police (ISP) is engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination by maintaining a policy where applicants for cadet job vacancies are automatically excluded from consideration for employment if the applicant has a hearing loss and was not permited the use of assistive devices or if the applicant has diabetes mellitus which is controlled by the use of an insulin pump. The settlement requires the ISP to eliminate its policy of automatically excluding applicants for cadet jobs who use assistive devices such as hearing aids and also eliminate its policy of automatically excluding cadet job applicants who control their diabetes mellitus condition through the use of an insulin pump.
