Center for disabled: Don’t shut us down -

Garden Center Services in Burbank, which provides support for people with developmental disabilities, hosted a rally Friday to raise awareness and protest proposed cuts in state funding.

Supporters lined up in front of the center, 8333 Austin Ave., toting signs that read “Respect who we are” and “Do not shut us down.”

A proposed 6 percent cut in Medicaid rates would result in a loss of more than $300,000 for the center, according to a news release from the center. The funding reduction could mean a number of those who rely on the center for services would be turned away and the agency could be forced to reduce its work force, the release said.
